Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to forgive those who have hurt you? Let me suggest four reasons. 1) Because it offends our sense of justice. 2) Because we don’t realize that forgiveness is an act of obedience not a feeling. 3) Because we don’t understand that forgiving those who have wronged us is a process rather than a single act. 4) Because we don’t want to be hurt again.

“‘Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you? In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured…This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

— Matthew 18:33-35 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to forgive each other the same way You have forgiven us. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
