The day was gray and cold as the prisoner was led from his cell and bound to the stake. Brushwood, straw, and logs were packed tightly around him. Gunpowder was added to the brush to assure a quick burn. At a signal from the magistrate the prisoner was burned at the stake. His name—William Tyndale. His crime—translating the Holy Scriptures into the language of the common people.
He gave his life so we could have the Bible. Are you reading it, meditating on it, and memorizing it or are you simply too busy? Can you say with the psalmist…
“Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.” — Psalm 119:24
“I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.”
— Psalm 119:104
Lord Jesus, create in us a hunger and a thirst for Your Word. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
