To the disciplines of prayer and Scripture Jesus added the discipline of public worship. It was a critical part of His spiritual life. If public worship was critical for Him how much more critical is it for us? In public worship we lose our independence and become interdependent. God becomes “our Father” instead of “my Father.” In corporate worship the great truths of scripture and the spiritual life are fleshed out. Here, in relationship with one another, we learn to serve, to forgive, to share and to love.
“But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold…till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.”
— Psalm 73:2 and 17 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, help us to be renewed as we worship. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
