Studies show that greed is the motivation behind many bad investments. A man sees an opportunity to get rich quick and it blinds him to the risks involved. The wise man put it this way: “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense” (Proverbs 12:11 NLT). Inevitably his family suffers the consequences—“A greedy man brings trouble to his family…” (Proverbs 15:27 NIV 1984).
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
— Proverbs 21:5 (NIV 1984)
Lord, help me to be content without being complacent, to be industrious without being greedy, to be prudent without being obsessively cautious. Above all else give me a thankful heart and a generous spirit. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
