By nature the apostle Paul was a man of passion and zeal. Before his encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus, his misguided zeal made him a terror to the early believers. Luke says he was “breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples” (Acts 9:1). “Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison” (Acts 8:3). Once he was converted everything changed. The Holy Spirit redeemed his zeal transforming him into a fearless witness for Christ. Hear him as he declares:

“I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die…for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

— Acts 21:13 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to be willing to risk any hardship or danger to accomplish Your holy purpose. In Your name we pray. Amen.
