When Paul talks about “being content in any and every situation” (Philippians 4:12) he’s talking from experience. At the time he penned those words, he was a prisoner in Rome awaiting execution for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He had no home, no wife or family. His only earthly possessions were a cloak and some parchments. Yet there’s not so much as a hint of self-pity in his words.
“I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”
— Philippians 3:8 (KJV)
Lord Jesus, may we too count all things but loss for the excellency of knowing You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
