When tragedy strikes, we are not only tempted to blame God, but also to despair. Initially your faith may be strong, but as the storm continues to rage you may be tempted to give up. Nothing you do seems to make any difference—not your most determined efforts, nor your most fervent prayers. If you are not careful, that sense of powerlessness will give way to a numbing hopelessness. Grief will tempt you to despair, to conclude that all is lost. Facing a moment like that the apostle Paul said:

“…I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost…for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.”

— Acts 27:22, 25, (NIV)

Lord Jesus, You are our only hope. Command this storm to cease. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
