Let trouble suddenly cut us off at the knees and we may be tempted to blame God. Given the pain, the inexplicable agony of life’s irrational catastrophes, we may find ourselves questioning God’s character; or if not, His character, then His competence. “If God is a good God,” we say, “how could He allow something like this to happen?” Or, to put it another way, “How can God say He loves us, when there is such pain and misery in our lives?”

Then Moses went back to the Lord. “Lord,” he protested, “how can you mistreat your own people like this?”

— Exodus 5:22 (TLB)

Lord Jesus I’m hurting so bad I’m tempted to blame You. With one hand I shove You away but with the other hand I cling to You for dear life. Help me. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
