You don’t have to live very long to realize that no one goes through life unscathed (Job 5:7). Sooner or later someone you trust will betray you, a business deal will go south leaving you in a financial crisis, illness strikes or someone you love dies. When that happens you may be tempted to define your life by that painful experience. Don’t! Refuse to define your life by any single event, whatever it may be. It is a real part of your life but that is all—just a part.
“He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”
— Psalm 112:7 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, teach us to put bad news into proper perspective, to realize it is just a small part of our life. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
