After sorting through all the things I have to be thankful for, I realize that one thing stands out above all the rest—my salvation. Although I have lived a fairly decent life by society’s standards, by God’s law I am a transgressor. I am guilty. I have been judged and found wanting. I have sinned and I am under a sentence of death—eternal death. There is absolutely nothing I can do to save myself. But what I cannot do for myself, God did for me.
“…God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, I thank you for suffering the shame of the cross so I don’t have bear the shame of my sins. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
