What Jacob experienced when he wrestled with God, in the dark, on the muddy bank of the Jabbok, was true prayer—life-changing prayer. We used to have prayer meetings like that. “Praying through” we called it, which meant that we weren’t leaving the place of prayer until God had touched us, cleansed us, made us new! Like Jacob, we determined, “…‘I will not let you go unless you bless me’” (Genesis 32:26).
“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”
— Hebrews 5:7
Lord Jesus, make our prayers passionate. Empower us to pray with tears and fervent cries even as we submit to Your will. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
